Instrumental Music Staff

The 2026-2027 academic year is Mr. Jiménez’ 16th year at College Park High School and 22nd year as a public school music educator. 

Mr. Jiménez holds a Bachelor of Music degree in choral & instrumental music education from California State University, Stanislaus as well as a California single-subject teaching credential in music. Before coming to College Park, Mr. Jiménez taught choral & instrumental music at all levels, K-12 in the River Delta Unified School District and the Woodland Joint Unified School District. 

Since he arrived in Fall 2011, Mr. Jiménez has helped oversee significant growth in the CPHS Instrumental Music Program which now offers three concert bands, two jazz bands, three orchestras, guitar classes, piano classes, AP music theory and music technology. He is also involved in the College Park school community by currently serving as department chair for the Visual and Performing Arts Department, as a board member for the Contra Costa County Band Directors Association and is on the district-wide VAPA Captains Team as high school instrumental music lead for Mt. Diablo Unified School District. 

Professionally, Mr. Jiménez has experience playing and performing with the Modesto & Stockton Symphony Orchestras, the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchesta, One Found Sound (a San Francisco based chamber orchestra), the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra and the San Francisco Wind Ensemble. He has also conducted summer camp bands at the Hayward-La Honda Music Camp and Summer Music at Stanislaus. 

A San Diego native, Mary Calo currently holds a masters degree in bassoon performance from Arizona State University, a masters in music education from Ohio University, and a bachelors in bassoon performance from University of the Pacific (UOP). While in college, she enjoyed performing in both the Symphonic Wind Ensembles and Symphony Orchestras. Also while at UOP she won the Mu Phi Epsilon Sacramento Alumni Chapter Competition.

Ms. Calo is an avid chamber musician and has attended festivals in the Czech Republic, Spain, Colombia, and Italy. In all festivals she participated in woodwind quintets, reed trios, duets, and orchestral performances. Her chamber music ventures also include performing at the 42nd International Double Reed Society Concert in the summer of 2013 with her bassoon quartet and the University of the Pacific Bassoon Ensemble. The program included a unique piece by composer John Steinmetz called The Monster that Devoured Cleveland.

As an orchestral player Ms. Calo has acted as a substitute for numerous organizations in the bay area, and Southern California. She has been a substitute as second bassoon for the Stockton Symphony Orchestra. One of the performances was quoted in the Stockton Record as having “crisp, rhythmic precision and an impressive dynamic range”. She has also substituted in the Veridian Symphony, St. John’s Chamber Orchestra, and for the Dean Lesher Center for the Arts.

Ms. Calo has studied with Professor Nicolasa Kuster, Albie Micklich, and Matthew Morris. Mary’s first instructor was Dannette White who is a local San Diego teacher. Ms. Calo has also taken lessons from Leyla Zamora, Saxton Rose, David Wells, and Franck Lebois. She has participated in masterclasses with Monica Ellis, Kristen Wolfe Jensen, Benjamin Kamins, and Milan Turkovic.

Ms. Jeannin performs regularly on period and modern instruments in the US, Europe, New Zealand and Asia. She was a scholarship student at Juilliard’s Baroque Performance Program, and has appeared with Juilliard415 and with New York Baroque Inc. On the West Coast, she performs with Bach Collegium San Diego, Archetti Baroque String Ensemble, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Galax Quartet, San Jose Baroque Orchestra, and San Francisco Bach Choir. As an educator, Ms. Jeannin has been teaching privately in the Bay Area for over a decade and coaches the Sacramento Youth Symphony Chamber Music Workshop. When not playing the violin, she enjoys knitting, baking, exploring nature with her husband and playing with her cat Sherbert.

Ms. Jeannin is excited to be working with the CPHS Instrumental Music Program as Student Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year as she earns her California single-subject teaching credential in music through California State University, East Bay. 

Amy Brodo (cello and gamba) performed for many years in Italy, Israel, and England before moving to San Francisco Bay Area, with positions including assistant principal cellist of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Italy, and cellist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. As a freelancer in Europe, she performed with several period and modern instrument groups. In California, Ms. Brodo has performed on viola da gamba and Baroque cello with groups that include Lux Musica, Sex Chordae Consort of Viols, Magnificat Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, El Mundo, Musica Angelica, Archetti and Albany Consort, California Bach Society. She has played on over twenty commercially produced recordings. Amy plays principal cello with the Livermore Opera Company, recently performed as principal cello with West Edge Opera and Solo Opera, and gives cello and piano recitals including compositions by twentieth century women composers and chamber music concerts. Amy judges several competitions and was a founding member of the piano quartet with voice, Persephone Chambers Ensemble. During this past season Amy performed chamber music at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia with Philadelphia Orchestra members and Curtis alumni. Her baroque group Harmonia Felice is now an affiliate of San Francisco Early Music Society and often performs Rameau operas for small forces. She maintains a private teaching studio in Oakland and Pleasanton, CA and coaches chamber music for adults.
